We’ve entered the part of January where the shine of the New Year is wearing off, the world is literally on fire1 and things all around feel a bit heavier than I would like this time of year. If you, too, are looking for some bright spots and things to look forward to, may I suggest these 9 books?
There’s way, way more than 9 excellent-sounding books releasing this year, but this list felt manageable and they are all books I personally plan on reading. If you put them on hold at your library now you can be one of the first to get your hands on them.
A Sea of Unspoken Things, Adrienne Young (January 7) - I loved The Unmaking of June Farrow and I’m excited to pick up this book about twin siblings with an uncanny connection.
Onyx Storm, Rebecca Yarros (January 21) - I mean, obviously. Gearing up for a major book hangover after this one. Also came across this Fourth Wing and Iron Flame recap for those of us who didn’t go back and review the material.
First-Time Caller, B.K. Borison (February 11) - Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this love story is inspired by Sleepless in Seattle.
Deep Cuts, Holly Brickley (February 25) - I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book that follows Percy and Joe’s relationship through the indie music scene of the early aughts.
Our Infinite Fates, Laura Steven (March 4) - Inspired by the Taylor Swift song Exile, two lovers who can remember all their past lives are fated to kill each other in every lifetime. Comped to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, which I loved.
All the Other Mothers Hate Me, Sarah Harman (March 11) - I’m predicting this is going to be the buzzy new release for the first half of 2025. A jaded mom has to solve the disappearance of her son’s bully in order to clear her son’s name.
Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man, Jesse Q. Sutanto (April 1) - Vera Wong is back again! This time she’s investigating (“investigating”) the death of an influencer. If you haven’t read the first Vera Wong book, I recommend checking that one out first.
Great Big Beautiful Life, Emily Henry (April 22) - This year’s EmHen release! I will read anything she writes, but this book feels reminiscent of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year, so definitely sign me up.
The Love Haters, Katherine Center (May 20) - Releasing just in time for beach read season, Katherine Center’s newest promises to include “helicopter rides, conga lines, and drinking contests” and frankly, that’s all I need to know.
Your Turn:
What books are you looking forward to reading this year? Leave your list in the comments!
If you are able to, please consider making a donation to support those who have lost everything in the LA fires. Some good places to donate: Baby2Baby, World Central Kitchen, and Danielle Moss also has a great initiative going where she’s helping support individual families. There’s also this heartbreaking list of kids’ missing stuffies.
Many of these are on my TBR (A sea of unspoken things, Onyx Storm, Great Big Beautiful Life, and The Love Haters) and definitely added some others to my list (Thanks!☺️)
